The Women in Tech I Admire

Growing up. I was always told that tech was a “man” thing. Women were supposed to aspire to roles that were more demure. I have always loved tech you see, even when I didn’t understand most of it, as broad as the field was.

Entering university was a milestone. I had these neighbors who lived opposite and it turned out that they were into tech, tech bros as I liked to call them. We were close as opposite neighbors could be and they would sometimes bring their work with them into our room.

I was always curious as to what they were working on. That curiosity grew and eventually, I pleaded with them to teach me. Those pleas were always met with a subtle but not so subtle “no”. Eventually, I gave up and turned my attention to other fields.

It wasn’t until my final year at my university when I stumbled upon tweets by Juliana Rotich, Baddies in Tech, Belinda Parmar, etc. that my life was truly changed. My journey into tech was largely due to these intelligent women who paved a way for girls like me and inspired us into venturing into this male-centric led field and finding our voice.

Cheers to all the women in tech. #WomenWhoTech
