Beginning My Journey Into Tech.

Academic Staff Union of Universities otherwise known as ASUU is an association every Nigerian Federal University student is familiar with.

I say familiar because year after year, they go on strike which every student including myself dread because there is no time limit to when their strike would end. It could span months or years.

In 2022, their strike action began on February 14 after numerous warnings to the Federal government which were all ignored. Once again, my education was put on hold for the foreseeable future. I was in my final year at my university and I was feeling the anxiety and panic that comes from finishing school and going into "life". So, when this strike was announced, I started looking for things to do in the meantime till ASUU's issues were resolved.

I started my journey in tech with the help of my older brother. Before that, I thought tech was something only men could do. Although I had long had an interest in this field for a while. I didn’t know how or where to start from. With the help of different resources my brother sent me from various sites on Youtube to accounts on Twitter that regularly tweeted about tech. I was able to start from somewhere. I decided to start with front-end developing and work my way up from there. Learning HTML, CSS and now learning Javascript has been the many highlights these past few months.

Most days it isn’t easy though and the situation of the country isn’t helping. From buying data to electricity and battling with imposter syndrome. Most days I find myself wondering if I can actually make it in this world of tech. I remind myself that I’ve come a long way since February 14th and even though I haven’t gotten to the stage where I want to see myself yet. I know it’s a work in progress.
